“An object at rest stays at rest and an object in motion stays in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force.” – Newton’s First Law of Motion

It’s been a long time since I wrote anything here. It’s hard to start something back up when you haven’t done it in a while.

  • It’s hard to go to school when you’ve been at virtual school for so long
  • It’s hard to go to work when you’ve been working from home for so long
  • It’s hard to exercise and eat right when you’re haven’t been for so long
  • It’s hard to go to church, socialize, be around other people, turn off the news, travel, etc. etc. etc.

It’s hard to get your momentum back.

We’ve been blessed to have our kids at in person school since the fall. It was hard to get them and us back in the school routine. Home/virtual school last spring was even harder, but, still, it was hard getting the kids up and out the door in the morning, getting the homework habit back, packing lunches, and so on. Everyone was tired and cranky for a while (we kind of still are). The kids were a bit behind at a school. A few months of hard work later, and everyone’s found their momentum again. Both big kids’ grades are great, and Gracie got a student of the month award in December and Jack got it in January.

I was blessed with a new job a couple of months ago. I was 90% working from home during the preceding seven months, and it was hard to get my work engine started again. It was a big change going from my home office every day to waking up earlier, shaving, putting actual work pants on, and driving to a real office or to the sites most days. But even though it was hard, I kind of enjoyed being back in a routine. And even though I’m still adjusting and tired as heck at the end of the day/week, I’m starting to get my momentum back. I’m starting to feel like my old self at work, back to shaking things up, pushing the pace, fighting the good fight, etc. etc.

I recognize our blessings here, and most people haven’t had the opportunity to reclaim much of their former lives yet. But God willing, you will soon be able to do just that. It’s hard to start moving after you’ve been stuck for a long time. That’s physics, baby. It’s going to take energy to get your momentum back. But you’ll be able to do it. And once you get you moving again, well, I wouldn’t want to be the one who stands in your way.
